Week Two_The Wesleyan Quadrilateral
As Wesleyan's we have a distinct way of viewing and interpreting the world. This is commonly known as the Wesleyan Quadrilateral. During our discussion the analogy of the body was used to describe each portion and function of the quadrilateral. The analogy is as follows:
Scripture = Vital Organs
Head = Reason
Arms and Hands = Tradition
Legs = Experience
The key to understanding the quadrilateral is to remember that Scripture is always supreme. Our Reason, Tradition, and Experience should all be bolstered by the teachings and principles of the Scriptures.
As always, leave a comment or question!
Week One_Orthodoxy_Orthopraxy
During this weeks class we discussed the distinction between Orthodoxy and Orthopraxy. To frame our conversation we read an article by Richard Beck. You can read the article here.
In short, Orthodoxy represents the "correct" thinking of the church, and Orthopraxy represents the "correct" actions of the church in the world. These distinctions can be reduced to the individualistic level as well.

Introductions
Welcome! This blog s designed to be a place where those at Salem UMC can come and listen/discuss the BELIEVE course. This course is designed to ask and answer two questions:
What do we believe as Christians - Orthodoxy?
&
How do we act in the world - Orthopraxy?
Each week I will post the recorded discussions from each class. Please feel free to leave comments in the sections below. I'll periodically check back to interact with those questions.
Thanks for Visiting!
